Crossing Over To Promise

By Reverend Harold Mauldin

It's time for us to begin to see the promises come to pass that God has for us. In order to receive them, we must be willing to cross over to victory. Jordan stood in the way of Israel and the Promise Land. Jordan is symbolic of death. The Jordan River flowed to the Dead Sea. In order to receive what God has promised us, we must be willing to die out to the flesh.

Moses had taken the children of Israel to the edge of Jordan and was allowed to see the Promise Land. However, he was not allowed to cross over because he struck the rock instead of speaking to the rock as God had commanded. Moses had seen the miracles, seen the plagues, and led the children of Israel out of bondage into the wilderness. He had seen God and had close communication with Him. He knew of God's wrath and God's mercy. He knew of the sacrifical Lamb and the scapegoat. Yet the wilderness offered pain, death and rejection into the Promised Land. Moses, however, received a greater promise. He went to be with God. We've got to cross over to promise. We cannot afford to rest at Jordan.

Joshua, according to Deuteronomy 34:9, was full of the spirit of wisdom. Moses had laid his hands on him and the children of Israel listened to him. Listen to the Man of God! Never, ever speak ill against your Pastor. He is the man of God. You may not agree with him but he is God's mouthpiece. Joshua was their leader and Israel knew it. They knew he was the man to take them across Jordan. We need spiritual leaders who will challenge us to cross over the flesh and get in the Spirit.

God promised Joshua in Joshua chapter 1 that he would be with him. He said he would never fail or forsake them. We need to be like Israel. Be strong, of good courage, not afraid or confused. Let there be no doubt that God made Jordan and his people will cross over.

When the children of Israel prepared to cross over, they did it by following the Glory. the Ark of the Covenant went before them. We need to follow the law of God and walk in the mercy he has extended to us. The Ark was carried by the people to give them faith to cross over. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word (Romans 10:17). Keep your heart on the word and your eyes on God and you can cross over to promise.

In I Corinthians 10: 1-5, we hear of the children of Israel passing over the Red Sea. All the fathers were under the cloud. All passed through the sea. All were baptized unto Moses. All ate the same spiritual meat. All drank the same spiritual drink. Many were overthrown in the wilderness. Why? Because complaining and doubting will never lead us to the Promise Land. We've got to cross over by the word and faith. Cross over to Promise!

The crossing of Jordan brought the children of Israel into a new, promised possession. The cross of Jesus does the same. We pass from death unto life (Jn 5:24). When we received Jesus into our life and are baptized, we are baptized unto his death. In Romans 6, Paul tells the Romans that to live for God is to be dead to sin. Sin is no longer reigning in the life of the believer. God, through His righteousness, now reigns in our hearts. When righteousness is placed in the heart of the believer, it has the power to help us cross over to the things of God. The Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. It's time to crossover to Promise!

In Colossians 2: 6-10, Paul says that we who have crossed over to Christ and should walk in him. Follow the faith and avoid philosophy and vain deceit and rudiments of the world which hinder the anointing.

In him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him. Jesus is the head of all principality and power.

Life without Jesus is like a puzzle without a piece. Without Jesus, life is incomplete. If your life is empty and without Jesus, he can make you complete. There is a river of death that we must all face. We will either die out to the flesh and receive everlasting life or we will be like the puzzle without a piece. We will be incomplete and die in our sins. Give your life to Jesus and cross over to promise.
