WHEN AM I SAVED?

By Rev. Richard Burgett

Matt. 12:22 "but he that endureth to the end shall be saved".

Mark 13:13 "he that shall endure unto the end shall be saved".

Mark 16:16 "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved".

Acts 2:21 "and it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Romans 10-13 "the name of the Lord shall be saved".

Ephesians 2:8 "by grace are ye saved through faith".

So let us take the end to the beginning, for God knew the end from the beginning. Therefore in Paul's writing of Ephesians 2:8; we are told that it is the Grace of Almighty God that awakens the need of God in the heart of every person. Grace which is the unmerited favor of God, reveals that "God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son", according to John 3:16. Then by revelation they see that a person is helpless without hope and lost without Jesus, who died for the sins of the world. Who believing that God so loved the world prepared a way of escape through Jesus, they accept God's offer of salvation and believes on the work of Jesus at Calvary unto their own salvation. Therefore by Grace through faith are they saved, this is the Grace of God.

Is it enough to believe with the heart and mind, or is there more required? A sinner must call upon the name of the Lord as Paul writes in Romans 10:13. How does one call upon the name of the Lord? Paul's personal experience tells us in Acts 22:16, Ananias told Paul to arise (in faith in Jesus) and be baptized (in the name of Jesus, Acts 2:38) this will wash away sin when it is done in the name of the Lord. Who is the Lord? Jesus is Lord according to Acts 22:8. there is not salvation in any other name, for there is no other name given under heaven whereby we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Paul was very much aware of this great truth and revelation.

Can everyone receive the same salvation? There is only "ONE SALVATION" just like there is only "ONE LORD" who preached that salvation for all people. Jesus said come unto me, all ye and all ye, means all ye. Acts 2:21 told us that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Again in Mark 16:16; we are told that he (sinner) that believeth (repents) and is baptized (calling on the name of the Lord, which is being baptized in Jesus Name), shall be saved. The token of our salvation the sign of the "blood of Jesus" being applied to our hearts, this is done when the indwelling of his Spirit (the Holy Ghost) comes into our lives. This confirms Peter's message on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. When those who had heard the preaching of that message, being pricked in their hearts said unto Peter and the rest of the brethren what must we do? Peter answered them saying; repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. But he did not stop with the Jews, oh yes he said it was for them, and their children but also for them that were afar off (that's you and me, friend), as many as the Lord of God shall call.

Now that a person is forgiven of their sins by repentance; they have those sins washed away through baptism in Jesus Name and have been empowered to be witnesses by receiving the Holy Ghost, then there is some "endurance". In Matthew 12:22 and Mark 13:13, the believer is admonished to "endure unto the end". Both passages give instructions that "he that endured until the end shall be saved. A person cannot just start this Christian race, but he must finish the race to receive the prize. In this race for eternal life, it is not who is the swifts, nor the short term sprinter, but to him that finish is the race given. Everyone is running the race of life, but only those who are running in Jesus Name will receive the full reward. My prayer is that everyone who reads this will run under the banner of Calvary's Lamb, the banner of the blood washed of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are not on His team, he is recruiting you today. Come and be a winner for Jesus. Call on His name in faith from your heart in repentance and then in public confession by baptism (of water in Jesus name) and let Him give you (by your receiving) the blessed gift of the Holy Ghost. Then run the race of your life for Jesus until the end, and then receive "Life Everlasting" at the end of your race.
